This issue of Screencap explores liminal spaces and the strange emotional resonance of transitional environments suspended between familiarity and estrangement. Examining internet aesthetics, analog horror, collective nostalgia, and digital culture through phenomena such as the “Backrooms,” the issue considers why empty hallways, abandoned malls, fluorescent-lit offices, and other “in-between” spaces evoke simultaneous feelings of comfort, unease, and existential disorientation.
